How libraries change lives

When was the last time you visited your local library? You might be surprised by what’s happening if you haven’t been recently. Ciara Eastell makes the case for these places of transformation and possibility, arguing that in an era of fake news and loneliness, we need our libraries more than ever.

Ciara Eastell OBE believes in the power of libraries, arts and culture to benefit civic and community life. For 10 years she was responsible for delivering libraries across Devon, most recently as chief executive of Libraries Unlimited, the charity which runs 54 libraries in South West England. Ciara is also a national council member of Arts Council England, an advisor to the British Library and now runs her own consultancy providing advice and expertise on leadership and change across the cultural and social enterprise sectors.
